GRAND JUNCTION COLORADO TEMPLE

GRAND JUNCTION COLORADO TEMPLE

It could be the most adventurous temple trip I’ll ever take. That’s because I’m going there tomorrow with my brother Ron. In his airplane…!

For my birthday last year, Ron offered to fly me anyplace west of the Mississippi River. There were two temples recently dedicated that would qualify for that type of a trip: Farmington, New Mexico and Grand Junction, Colorado. I went with Grand Junction Colorado!

Right now, I’m in the Denver Colorado airport waiting for my next flight to Salt Lake City later tonight. Ron is going to pick me up there, take me back to his home in Woodland Hills, and at 7 AM tomorrow, we head over to the Spanish Fork airport to take-off for a one hour flight to Grand Junction!

Ron has other heights too. He’s a very serious and dedicated gospel scholar. For many years he’s gotten up at 5:30 in the morning and studied the scriptures. And he’s a regular temple attendee on a weekly basis. So being with him in a temple is going to be an extra joyful experience!

I got up this morning at 6:30, took a shower, and went upstairs to grab some toast. I’m eating lightly due to my temporary Dramamine diet. Ron and I went down to the airport and after doing a bunch of preliminary checks, we hopped in the plane and took off for Grand Junction. What a thrill!

The flight is only an hour. We will travel at 200 miles an hour. At an elevation of 10,500 feet. We flew right out through Spanish Fork Canyon, north of Price, crossed over a bunch of deserted mountain tops, then drop down into Grand Junction, Colorado. It’s the first time I’ve ever landed in an airplane where I got to view it from the cockpit. What a thrill!

we were the last two in the 10 o’clock session. It was great! The Grand Junction Colorado temple is a beautiful place. It is the third temple in Colorado behind Denver and Fort Collins. The only other US temple I have not been to is in Farmington, New Mexico and I’m going there on April 4.

With this visit to Grand Junction Colorado temple, I’ve now done temple work with all of my siblings, except Anne and Debbie.
After the temple session, I took Ron to lunch at a great barbecue place called Rib City. I went with the baby back ribs, Ron went with the brisket. Everything about it was fabulous, but particularly the fact that they give a free piece of pie to anybody who’s there for the first time. We both went for coconut cream! 🍰🍰

I learned that at the airport that I didn’t need to get an Uber to get us over to the temple because the airport supplies a car to these pilots who fly in temporarily. What a thrill!

After lunch, we went back to the airport, did a brief flight check, and took off heading back to Spanish Fork. I had no problem with motion sickness either way. We flew in over Spanish Fort Canyon and Ron did a beautiful S turn landing to put us back on the ground in Spanish Fork. We flew at 150 miles an hour coming west because we had a 20 mile an hour headwind we flew into. What a joy to do this spectacular temple day!
