YORBA LINDA CALIFORNIA TEMPLE
This post starts with BYU Education Week. My son-in-law is presenting a class on the spiritual lessons contained in The Lord of the Rings! I made it to the final night on Friday. Before I left, I also thought, “Since I’ll be in Utah, wouldn’t it be great if I could go onto LA and visit this new temple Saturday night?” It worked!
I left Maryland Thursday night and drove to Philadelphia. The brst flights to Utah this weekend were out of Philly so I drove there. I arrived in Denver about midnight.
I slept in the airport for a few hours, then flew to Utah at 6 am, arriving at 7:30. I met Kelly and her girls at the Draper Aquarium. What a fascinating place! I got to play with my cute granddaughters for a couple of hours, then took them to Zuppas for lunch. What fun!
I was hoping to meet a lady named Chrissy for lunch. She went dark and never responded!
No problem! I dropped off a copy of my dad’s book at Anne’s house for her son, Devin. Anne showed me her house that’s listed for sale. It’s gorgeous!
Next, I bought Subway sandwiches for Frances and Michael Seay then delivered them to their condo in Provo. It was SOOOO GREAT to see them!
Next, off to the Wilkinson Center to attend Jake’s program. It was fantastic!! I sat next to my sister Carolyn, which was a joy! John and Lisa Axley were also there!
From BYU I headed to Salt Lake and stayed at the Clarion Hotel at the airport. The next morning I flew to Phoenix then on to LAX. But enough about traveling; let’s talk about food!
When in Utah, I LOVE to go to Arctic Circle! I went with the #1 Burger 🍔 combo, large fries 🍟, large root beer 🍺, and small Heath Bar shake. I ate that stuff on the drive from Lindon to Salt Lake Friday evening. Such a joy! Love their fry sauce. Loved the burger. REALLY loved the shake! I think they put 3 Heath Bars in that shake. Every bite from start to finish had boatloads of Heath in it! FANTASTIC!!
I rented a car at LAX and went straight to the temple. About a one-hour drive. On the way, I drove through Buena Park, my daughter Kelly’s last area of her mission! It took me back to those good old days when I wrote my daughter Kelly and my son James every Sunday afternoon while they were on their missions!
The Yorba Linda Temple is fabulous! With it, beautiful white walls and red tiled roof it fits right in with the architecture of the area.

The Yorba Linda Temple is the 219th dedicated temple. It was announced in April of 2021 and dedicated in June of 2026 by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. It is the 9th temple in the state of California!
I am THRILLED to be able to visit this beautiful temple while on my extended BYU Education Week journey. I am writing this from the Orlando airport , where I arrived at 8 this morning after catching the 11:30 pm flight last night from LAX. That flight from LAX was only $16!
I’m next flying to Charlotte then I have a few hours rest and then onto Philadelphia where I will arrive around midnight. From there I drive 2 1/2 hours back to Rockville Maryland where I will quickly crash in my bed! It’s amazing how I can fall asleep on the floor at an airport gate area!
The feature photo for this temple was taken by a woman sitting in her car parked parallel to the temple. I told her to stay right there and just take the shot. That was a first!
The session was in Spanish. I did it without an interpretive headset. I thought of my daughter Kelly, who served her mission in this area. Anaheim California Spanish speaking. The first night of her mission she was assigned a companion from Australia who was Samoan, and she was asked to serve in the Samoan program and learn their 🇼🇸 Samoan language. She did it! She also learned Tongan as well 🇹🇴. What an inspiration!
