Birmingham Alabama Temple

Birmingham Alabama Temple

It was about 190 miles from the Nashville Tennessee Temple to the Birmingham Alabama Temple. I arrived at about 2:30 and the first session wasn’t until 6 PM so we had a few hours to take a nap. I cleared out the area behind the seats in my truck and laid down for a bit.   A light rain outside made it quite enjoyable.

I checked the oil in my truck about 80 miles back and found out it was not even showing on the dipstick. Blowing an engine would’ve completely ruined not only this trip but the rest of my life for the next little while… 4 quarts of oil later and I’m back on the road.

I also decided to hit Dairy Queen to support Warren Buffet’s empire at Berkshire Hathaway. I’m glad I did.

I thought a lot about my good friends Rich and Liz  Hanks while I was here. They presided over the Birmingham Alabama Mission for three years and were released maybe a couple of years ago now. I even asked a couple of the temple workers if they knew the Hanks and they said yes with a big smile.

This temple is similar to many others I’ve visited on this trip: smaller, adjacent to a stake center, and a little less elaborate on the inside.  Still the wonderful spirit of a temple is found in each one of these as are some fabulous and kind temple workers.

The photo of me standing in front of the temple was taken by a gentleman who was here from Pensacola Florida. This is his temple and he had to drive about four hours to get here.  He went to school in Ohio State so we talked a little bit about Urban Meyer and  the big Ohio State versus Michigan football game tomorrow. 🏈

I was approached by a Hispanic lady as soon as I entered the temple who handed me one of her name cards. I’m always impressed with the work people do for their ancestors.

This is the fifth temple I’ve visited on this trip and my 43rd temple since January 2017.
