Detroit Michigan Temple
Thank you Spirit Airlines! It started off my visit to the Detroit Michigan Temple perfectly…
My Airfare to the Detroit Michigan Temple
They say a picture is worth 1000 words so I’ll just post this one:
My Hotel Cost
Because of the temple’s schedule I had to fly in on a Tuesday night and had to wait until 7 PM to attend the Wednesday night session. Consequently I went to Trivago and booked a hotel room at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, about a mile from the airport. The cost? $77.
My Lyft Cab Ride
It’s about an hour from the hotel to the Detroit Michigan Temple so I took advantage of a 25% first-time customer offer for Lyft. The ride out to the temple was $33; the ride back was $44. Total cost? $77…
The Conversation
I quickly made a new friend with my driver Chantil. Because of where I was going, I had to explain a little bit about the temple. I was happy to do so. She told me towards the end of the ride, “This is one of the most fascinating experiences I’ve had in my five weeks driving for Lyft! “
I explained we’re not like the Amish. Also, I explained a little bit about what you do at a temple. I showed her my map of the 65 temples I’ve been to in North America so far. She was fascinated by all of it.
Her Experience Inside The Detroit Michigan Temple
When she let me out at the temple I invited her to come inside and explained she won’t be able to get past the recommend desk but she was fine with that.
It was a joy to see her standing there in her black street clothes looking at all of these temple workers dressed in white. I admired her courage. She referred to the temple workers as “angels” and as we walked back outside she commented about how good she felt when she was inside there.
I don’t know if the workers were more stunned to see her or if she was more stunned to see the workers! Regardless, it was a wonderful moment. Before she left I gave her an Articles of Faith card, my business card, and a GetUpside gas card. She was pleased with all three.
I love the paintings in our temples depicting people of all races in spiritual settings. I also loved the grey furniture in the celestial room.
Back to the Hotel—And the World Series!
My driver on the way back was Asid. He is from Iraq. Asid lived in Vegas for 11 years. He worked during the day then gambled the money at night. He lost the money…
So his wife moved back to Detroit, he followed her, but now she won’t let him see his kids. He’s frustrated and works 12 hours a day just to pay the bills. I gave him an Articles of Faith card too. I hope it helps.
Game 7!
I got back to the hotel in the fourth inning. Houston was ahead 2-0. In true comeback style the Nationals won it 6-2. It’s their first Series title since 1933! It’s also the first time in World Series history that the visiting team won all four games!
Victory!!
The Detroit Michigan Temple is my 66th Temple visited since January of 2017. Given all the 7s in this post, and the World Series title, it was truly a lucky temple trip for me.
