Hartford Connecticut Temple

Hartford Connecticut Temple

December 13, 2017

Wrong coat.  I should have brought my bigger coat with the hoodie and the long sleeves.  It was 21 degrees when I landed in Hartford but that’s okay.

I left my home at 5:30 AM, caught the metro down to Reagan National Airport and was on the 7:25 flight to Hartford.  Round-trip airfare, purchased about six weeks ago, was only $76.  Thank you, JetBlue.

The Potomac River on the way to Reagan National Airport.

I was thrilled to see some free snacks and drinks on the plane.  You don’t get that with Frontier!

We landed at 8:35 and I just missed the 8:42 bus to downtown Hartford where I would transfer to another bus that would take me to the temple.  Consequently I had to wait for almost an hour for the next bus.  I didn’t mind; I just parked next to the heater inside the terminal.

It was about a 30-minute bus ride to downtown Hartford, then about an hour more out to where the temple is in Farmington.

The last endowment session was at 11 this morning.  I knew I was going to miss it, but I didn’t worry since I could do initiatories or sealings instead.  The total one-way fare for the bus ride was $1.75.  The one-way Uber ride would have been $35.  The great thing is there is a bus stop directly across the street from the temple.

The temple looks like a really big stake center with a giant Moroni statue up on top of it.  I love the steeple as it reminds me of my former ward building in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  I did some initiatories with the wonderful temple workers there and then spent a few minutes in the celestial room.

I sat there quietly and re-read Alma chapter 38, which my dad read to me on my final family home evening before I left for my mission.  It’s great instruction!

I paid another $1.75 and took the bus back into downtown Hartford.  From there I went straight across the street to Panera Bread.  It was awesome!

There’s nothing like a chili bread bowl from Panera on a cold Connecticut day!

I’m almost back to the airport where I’ll be back in DC tonight around 9 PM.  All told, a wonderful day in the countryside of Connecticut.  This is my 23rd temple visited this year.  Only one more to go!
