Los Angeles California Temple

Los Angeles California Temple

January 17, 2018

My first temple trip of 2018 took me from the East Coast all the way to the West Coast thanks to a $132 round-trip airfare to Los Angeles.  My goal was to visit the Los Angeles and Redlands temples in one day.

Mission accomplished.

The Los Angeles Temple is the second-largest one we’ve ever built.  The Salt Lake Temple is the largest with the Washington DC Temple being the third largest.

Here’s the travel log, which was really pretty fun:

  1. I left Washington DC Reagan airport at 6 PM Tuesday night.
  2. I landed in Denver at 8:30 PM.
  3. I left Denver at 10:10 PM and arrived at LAX around midnight.
  4. I slept on the floor in an isolated corner at one of the gates until 4:30 AM.
  5. I took four buses to arrive across the street from the Los Angeles Temple.  The total cost for the buses was $2.10.
Love the inexpensive buses and audiobooks!

My goal was to hit the 6:45 AM endowment session which I missed by about 20 minutes.  No problem.  This temple has a cafeteria that serves breakfast starting at about 7 AM.  I went to the cafeteria and had the whole thing to myself.  For about $7 I had a wonderful breakfast.

A temple cafeteria breakfast is one of the best around!
  6. I hit the 8 AM endowment session on a full stomach.  The rooms that you move through are absolutely huge!  The cafeteria itself has ceilings that are about 30-feet high!  The endowment rooms can seat almost 300 people…
  7. There were only six of us total on the session.
  8. Afterwards I went back to the cafeteria and bought a dozen of the chocolate chip cookies for my primary class.  The cookies are only $1.50 for three.  I bought 12 cookies for only $6.52.  We’ve never had “temple cookies” in our primary class before.  This will be a big hit!
  9. At 10:30 AM I caught another bus and ended up at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
  10. On the way we went through Beverly Hills, past Rodeo Drive, and checked out the gas prices.  (I buy gas back in Washington for $2.39 a gallon…)

    Gas, anyone?

I couldn’t believe how large this LA temple was.  Incredible!  Now we just need to fill it up with patrons 🙂

This was my 24th temple visited since January of 2017 and my first one visited in 2018!

Off to the Redlands Temple now!
