Taylorsville Utah Temple

Taylorsville Utah Temple

My trip to the Taylorsville Utah Temple started when I departed the Red Cliffs Utah Temple at about 10:30 this morning. I took a Lyft ride from Red Cliffs over to the St. George shuttle headquarters and waited for about an hour to depart at 12:15 PM headed north. We stopped in Cedar city, Fillmore, UVU, and finally in Midvale on 72nd hundred south where two of us got off the shuttle.

At that point it was close to 5 o’clock and my temple session started at 6 PM. I found a Quality Inn hotel, just half a block from where the shuttle let me off and quickly booked a room. One fast shower and a change of clothes later and I was back in a Lyft ride headed 10 minutes to the temple. I got there at 5:44 PM and made it into the chapel for the endowment session at 5:56 PM. It was then that one of the officials said three words that summed up my travel adventure: “You made it!”
They verified that I had a prior appointment and escorted me upstairs to the endowment room. It was nearly full, and I quickly took my place on the back row in the far corner, which made me very happy.

I loved the chair that I sat in. It had an old pioneer style to it. The chair backings are made of dark wood. I rested my right elbow on a higher than normal elbow rest at the end of the row. It was very comfortable!

One of the last men to come into the session was a tall, gray haired man who is a movie actor. He sat at the very front row all the way at the end lined up directly in front of me about six or seven rows up. All session long I was trying to figure out what movies I had seen him in and who he was! I’m still baffled by it!

The Taylorsville Utah Temple is the 192nd dedicated temple of the Church. It is the fifth one built in the Salt Lake Valley and the 21st one built in the state of Utah. Its style and architecture draws on the pioneer history of this area. President John Taylor hid from United States marshals in this general area back in the 1880s to avoid capture. That might be where the town gets its name from.

As soon as I got out, I got this text from my cute daughter, Kelly, with my new granddaughter, Lucy! They are also in the football mood as they’re ready for the first Packers game of the year! I told Kelly this photo is pure joy.

As I exited the temple I quickly checked for an update on the BYU versus SMU football game score. I was going to go to Sandy to watch it with my sister and my mother, but it was almost into the fourth quarter, and that prevented me from making that trip. After sleeping in the Las Vegas airport last night and the four hour trip on the shuttle northward, I was thrilled to just go back to my hotel and watch the remainder of the game there. B.Y.U. won 18-15 so all is well in Happy Valley!

The last name of the man I did the endowment session for is Qvick. Swedish man born in the 1800s.

Tomorrow morning I attend the Layton Utah Temple then I fly back to Washington. What an exciting and spiritually rewarding adventure this is!
